Brush Up Your Makeup

When it comes to makeup, the tools you use to apply the makeup with are the most important part. Ranging from fan brushes to sponges, also known as ‘beauty blenders’, there is a whole word of different sized and shaped brushes waiting to be chosen.

Many people think that you need lots of brushes in order to create the perfect ‘face’ of makeup, but in reality, you only need the necessary brushes. Depending on the makeup you are doing, whether it be eye makeup or only base makeup, there are a variety of tools that can be used to create different looks.

Eye makeup brushes vary from angled brushes to flat or domed brushes, each for a different part of makeup. Take eyeliner for example, you would use an angled brush, in order to create a precise line and get the perfect cat eye to finish off your look. For eyeshadow, to pack on glitter you could use a flat faced brush to get the most pigment and for normal eyeshadow, a blending brush will help to create a smooth blend between different colours on your eye, whether they are bright and bold or neutral and muted.

When it came to starting to use makeup myself, I found it harder to learn how to use eye brushes more than face brushes, simply because there is a bigger variety. Eye makeup can be a lot more precise depending on what kind of look you are going for. I prefer to do subtle eyeshadow looks with less colour and more neutral shades, as I like to wear eyeliner and fake eyelashes. Some people will prefer a pop of colour and no eyelashes but it is all about preference. Of course, eye makeup isn't just restricted to our eyes, it also includes our lashes and brows. When I do my eyebrows, I like to use an angled brush that is quite thin, so it is easy to make my eyebrows look more natural. Eyebrows are usually more natural looking when they are brushed through, so the hairs aren't all over the place. To achieve this, I use a 'spoolie' which is essentially just a small brush that helps to shape your brows. A big trend with eyebrows at the moment is not putting product in your eyebrows, and simply just

brushing through them and setting them with brow gel. Many eyebrows pencils will come double-ended with a brush at the other end, which saves you having to buy a brush separately. Personally, I use the Revolution Duo Brow Pencil, which you can buy on Superdrug for £3.

Makeup brushes can be bought in sets or individually, I recommend buying them as a set. Unless you are looking for a specific brush, when you buy them as a set, the pack will usually come with tips, tricks and uses for each brush. Usually the brushes will also come with storage, such as a bag or container. This helps to keep your brushes organised and clean, away from the rest of your makeup.

Real Techniques Eye Brush Set

When it comes to finding brushes that work for you, a good set of brushes that I re

commend is the Real Techniques Eye Brush Set. You can find it on Amazon for £14.99. This price is really affordable for makeup brushes that are good quality and you get 8 brushes within the set. It also comes with

advice on how to use the brushes and what they are good for. I started out with these brushes and they helped me to advance with my eye makeup.

Once you start to play around with different brushes and techniques, it becomes second nature and take it from me, you will have to stop yourself from constantly buying new brushes and sets.
